With the generous outpouring of support from local donors, the San Carlos COVID-19 Response grants were awarded to over 40 nonprofits between March - November 2020. Four grant cycles were run by our all volunteer committee members to review and award provide support and services to our most impacted community members and nonprofits.
$9,000 to the Medical Equipment Lending Program (MELP) who lend durable medical equipment to adults and disabled children; funds will pay rent for the facility and help raise additional funds.

$2,000 granted to the Belmont-Redwood Shores Rotary Club for offering a Medical Equipment Lending Program (MELP) to all community members across the peninsula. (Fall 2022)
$10,000 granted for providing tutoring to academically struggling K-8 students in San Carlos and Redwood City (Fall 2023).

$2,710 granted for offering grade-appropriate classical music assemblies at all of the local schools (Fall 2023).

Nu Shu: The Secret Language of Women
Writing can be a liberating and empowering process, lifting historically oppressed voices. Join us on Saturday, March 27 at 7:00 PM for an exploration of Nu Shu (女書), a script created by and for women centuries ago.
Explore Nu Shu, a special female script created hundreds and perhaps thousands of years ago exclusively by and for women in Jiangyong County, Hunan province of southern China. Through a guided exploration of Professor Weimin Zhang’s multimedia art project, we will delve into how this script differs from traditional Chinese. We will also learn more about how it arose out of denied educational opportunities and condemnation to social isolation for peasant women.
Professor Weimin Zhang, of San Francisco State University, spent many years researching, producing this interactive multimedia art project that was acquired by the Library of Congress in 2007.
This bilingual program will be presented in English and Chinese.
