Volunteer: Food Bank Pickups & More for One Life

One Life

One Life

One. Life Counseling helps make mental heath services available to all. One Life believes that mental health services should be easily accessible, readily available and comfortable. They are skilled therapists and change agents who aim to inspire, educate, and provide accessible counseling for anyone who needs it.

Part of being healthy mentally is knowing there will be food for one’s self and family. Thus, our volunteer group is partnering with One Life to offer grocery pickup for local families, some of whom have nowhere else to turn.

Help Pickup. Food at Second Harvest & Deliver to One. Life

We need people to pickup food from various local area locations (usually at 8am) and deliver it to One Life on Laurel Street in San Carlos. Volunteers will help quickly unload your car so you can continue onwards or stay and volunteer on site if you wish.

2. DELIVeRY PEOPLE

We typically need five cars / delivery people. This can be done alone but is even easier if you have a partner from your “social bubble” to help, as they can enter directions, text recipients, deliver in a spot where parking is tricky. These jobs start between 10:30 and 12:00pm (your choice). You start by picking up groceries for about 8-10 families and then deliver to them. The routes are in San Carlos / Belmont, San Mateo, and Redwood City / East Palo Alto. This typically takes about 1 1/2 -2 hours depending on the route, if you’ve done it before, and/or if you have a helper.

3. SETUP - Packers

Second Harvest donations are bulk. Unload donations as they arrive and help create individual boxes from the food bank food, so that families can drive up and get a box put into their trunks. These roles are from 8am-10am.

4. Distributors

These roles are from 10am-1:15pm. This is onsite at One Life at 1033 Laurel St in San Carlos. You’ll loa cars as they drive in for food, continue packing food if needed, and help clean up.

If you need to leave a little early or come a bit late, email Sandy at volunteer-coordinator@sancarloscf.org, as we can probably use your help though it’s best if you can help for all / most of the time.
