Day 4: Race and Equity 

We are shifting your focus from the personal reflection that we have been exploring to a broader view of racial equity and social justice. The Center for Social Inclusion defines racial equity as an outcome and a process. We are striving toward the outcome of everyone having what they need to thrive, regardless of their race or where they live. The process of equity requires breaking down beliefs, systems, policies, and practices that support systemic racism and racial inequity. 

CHALLENGES 

OPTION 1: Read this Pew Research article about how the census was historically used as a tool to silence people of color. You’ll also learn how certain tactics continue today and why the debate over adding a citizenship question to the 2020 Census may depress engagement from the Latinx community.
